Red River Bookshop Wish List

I'll be off to Winnipeg in a week; visiting my favorite comic book shop - Red River Bookshop.  Here is the list of books I'm going after; essentially each 80s run of some of my favorite titles:

 Alpha Flight Vol 1. #1 - 50 (1983 - 1987)
  • #11 - 1st Omega Flight. Origin of Sasquatch
  • #41 - 1st Purple Girl; daughter of Purple Man.

Amazing Spiderman Vol.1 #200-327 (1980s)
  • Expensive books in this collection.  Only when we get to 90s; do the books become cheaper.
  • Consider early 90s Todd McFarlane run?

Conan Vol 1. #106-227 (1980s)
  • Absolutely nothing of significance in the entire Conan 80s Run.   These should be cheap and fun.

Cloak and Dagger Vol 1 (1983–1984).
  • #1-4 First Cloak and Dagger Series.
  • #4 Origin Story.

Cloak and Dagger Vol 2 (1985–1987)
  • Nothing stands out in either series.  These should be cheap.

Daredevil Vol 1. #162-275 (1980s)

#178 to #189 - Iconic Miller Run.  I own #183, can I build off this?
#190 - Resurrection and Origin of Elektra.
#196 - First meeting and team-up of Daredevil and Wolverine
#197 - 1st appearance of Yuriko Oyama, later becomes Lady Deathstrike.
#227 - Nice Kingpin Cover. Kingpin discovers Daredevil's identity
#229 - 1st appearance of Sister Maggie Murdock, a nun and Daredevil's mother.  Origin of Daredevil.
#254 - 1st appearance and origin of Typhoid Mary
#255 - 2nd appearance of Typhoid Mary
#257 - Awesome punisher and DD cover.

Doctor Strange Vol 2 #40-81 (1974–1987)
  • #48 - 1st meeting of Strange and Brother Voodoo - $35.
  • #60-62 - Battle of Strange and Dracula run.  Unfortunately, expensive at $15.

Fantastic Four Vol 1. #214-335 (1980s)
  • #258 - John Byrne cover featuring Dr. Doom.
  • #265 - She hulk joins FF.
  • #267 - Deat of Valeria Richards
  • #277 - Battle of Franklin Richards versus Mephisto
  • #278 - Origin of Doctor Doom.  Controversial issue where Johnny Storm confronts an individual who is defacing racial equality posters with racist propaganda. Multiple, uncensored panels clearly display an extremely offensive racist word and phrase
  • #280 - Sue Storm becomes Malice
  • #284 - Invisible Girl becomes Invisible Woman
  • #286 - Return of Jean Grey. Set up to introduction of X-Factor team, comprised of the original X-Men

Ghost Rider Vol 3. (1990–1998)
  • 90s books; but a run might be fun. Nothing stands out at the moment.

Hulk Vol.1 243-364 (1980s)
  • #250 - 1st Sabra and Israeli Mutant.  Awesome cover with Silver Surfer & Hulk.
  • #254 - 1st U-foes.
  • #259 - Origin of Darkstar and Vangaurd.
  • #260 - Death of Colonel Glenn Talbot
  • #267 - 1st cameo appearance of Brian Banner, Bruce Banner's father, in a dream-like sequence
  • #282 - First team-up of the Incredible Hulk and She-Hulk,
  • #290 - 1st and only appearance of Kate Waynesboro as a female version of M.O.D.O.K.
  • #291 - Origin of General "Thunderbolt" Ross. I like this cover.
  • #319 - Marriage of Bruce Banner and Betty Ross

Ka-zar the Savage
  • Complete missing Red River Bookshop run.

King Conan Vol 1. (1980–1983)
  • Nothing of significance in this series. Should be cheap runs.

Man Thing Vol 2.  (1979–1981)
  • Nothing of significance in this series. Should be cheap runs.

Marvel Tales (1964–1994)
  • Search this entire series for great one-shots.

Master of Kung Fu  (1974–2018)
  • Lots of unknown 1sts in this series.  Consider a cheap run.

Sensational She-Hulk Vol 1 (1989–1994)
  • #8 - She-Hulk seemingly kicks of the famous internet meme
  • Lots of expensive keys in this series.  Perhaps dance around these and get a cheap run?

Silver Surfer Vol 3. (1987–1998)
  • This might be the series to get.  Last 80s; early 90s.  Ads should be nostalgic.
  • #1 to #50 are 1987 to 1991.  Find runs in this range.

Spider-Woman Vol 1. (1978–1983)
  • #10 - 1st appearance of Gypsy Moth, a mutant who manipulates fabrics with her mind
  • #17 - 1st appearance of Waxman, a scientist with a rare skin condition that grants him the ability to alter his appearance

What If? Vol 1 (1977–1984)
  • Too many stories to list.  Pick some cheap one-shots of interest.

  • These are all Chris Clermont books.
    • #150 - Origin of Magento $2

    • #176 - Formation of X-Factor $3
    • #183 - Battle of Colossus versus the Juggernaut
    • #185 - Storm is stripped of her powers and doesn't regain them until nearly four years later in Uncanny X-Men #226
    • #191 - 1st Nimrod $3
    • #194 - 1st team appearance of Andrea and Andreas Strucker, a fake commercial in WandaVision $2
    • #196 - Controversial issue: in an effort to make a point about the offensiveness of the word 'mutie', Kitty Pryde uses an extremely offensive racial slur, uncensored.

  1. Here’s the plan for RRBD today:

    1) Check for dollar books right away against my list items.
    2) Hit back issue bins for my list issues; but quickly flip for prices only.
    3) After exploring all bins for prices, choose a few runs and go.
